Periodontal disease is a serious bacterial infection that destroys the attachment fibers and supporting bone that hold your teeth in your mouth. Left untreated, this disease can lead to tooth loss or can contribute to other medical conditions like cardiovascular problems and complications for diabetics and pregnant women. Periodontal disease is sometimes hard to recognize because there is often no pain, and there may not be any bleeding, redness, or swelling. Scaling and root planning, also called a deep cleaning, are non-surgical procedures in which the plaque and tartar are removed from below your gum line. The tooth root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed with specially designed instruments.
At Dr. Pinero’s office we try to get you the best treatment possible, so in conjunction with non-surgical periodontal treatment we use Arestin® (minocycline hydrochloride) to help to reach all the infected areas.

Is indicated as an adjunct to scaling and root planning procedures for reduction of pocket depth in patients with adult periodontitis. Arestin® may be used as part of a periodontal maintenance program which includes good oral hygiene, and scaling and root planning.
